This is the second in a series of video posts I want to share to show you how to integrate opt-in subscription forms to your blog. If you missed the first video you can check it out right here and also at my Youtube channel.
In this post I am going to show you how you can integrate a popup to your blog, by simply creating a new subscription form and inserting the code into three locations within your blog. The first location is your home page, the second your actual post page, and also your own pages page.
I will also show you various options which you can use to show your opt-in popup at alternate times and the way the popup shows on your website.
Take a look at the video below and let me know what you think. If you have any questions, then don’t hesitate to ask.
The opt-in of choice used in the video is Aweber! It’s one of the best tools in your toolbox.
I will be covering more complex popup forms in the coming weeks and also integrating free items and brandable eBooks to the opt-in form for you to use and give to your subscribers and an incentive to sign-up for your mailing list.
Until then please feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts. If you have any questions concerning this video, please let me know.

Hey Dan,
Really cool information on how to manually add opt in boxes.
You already have connected a few dots for me with this and now I see where your opt-in box comes from as well as for your ad for WSO Domination.
Actually you just gave me a cool idea about maybe writing a php rotator so I can have a few different offers throughout the whole blog and track which one converts the most and why.
Good stuff, keep up the good work mate!

Glad you like it Sergio. I have an ad rotator somewhere. I will dig it out for you if I can remember where the code is for it. I’m not sure it has tracking on it, but it does work via Clickbank. The actually placement holder is a widget called Ad Space which is part of the Thesis theme.
Thanks Sergio
Hi Daniel
I know pop ups work and they are good business, bu they really annoy me!
I look forward to the post about integrating freebies.
Dee
Hey Dee, Do you ever sleep? Whatever time I post, you are always there 1st on the comments. That’s cool, thank you.
I know you hate popups, but believe it or not they are good at what they do. I will be testing them on my blog after next weeks update to see how to perform.
What would you like to see on a blog Dee? Maybe a simple sidebar popup?
Thanks Dee
Hi Daniel
I am usually online till about 3am, but you will rarely see me online before 10 am LOL!
A sidebar pop up is probably less intrusive, I hate JT’s pop up, it covers the whole screen!
I hate exit pop ups even more!
I think I may have a sidebar pop up for a freebie. Wll wait and see your next post.
Dee
The popup I am going to look into soon is similar to JT’s but a little smaller. I am intending to create a full course on popup’s and signups to help anyone interested in getting a few more subscribers. But lets see where the road takes us Dee and how it all works out.
As for the popups, I don’t think I will place one on the home page as they are a pain in the butt, but that’s not to say we can’t place them on certain other pages.
Thanks Dee.
Hey Dan,
Great post. As I mentioned in an earlier post. I removed my pop up since a few readers complained. However, looking back over my stats it’s where I was getting 1/4 of mu sign-ups. It’s a hard balance isn’t it?
The particular plugin had a cookie so that it wouldn’t keep appearing after subsequent visits. i guess people are always clearing their cookies.
I think it’s still a good idea though, I suppose it just depends which niche your targeting.

Thanks Des, You will get complaints about it I’m sure I would too. I have actually been watch Neil Patel at quicksprout.com and he changes his opt-in’s all of the time for testing. He has a popup at the moment which is annoying, but I guess I just look past it because I know he’s testing.
The balance is hard and I dare say I won’t have it on the home page, but like I said to Dee maybe on some other single pages. I have a lot of changes I want to go through over the weeks and everyone’s opinion matters.
We will see Des
Hi Dan
Great post, just put a pop up on my blog, however, there was no time delay button in Aweber, so it comes up straight away, any ideas?
Thanks again.

Great stuff Kevin! Did you check the advanced setting dropdown for the timer? The advances link is quite hard to see on the right. Send me a screen dump of what you see when you edit the popup in Aweber and I will take a look for you if you like. dan @ dansumnerblog.com
Thanks Kevin
LOL, i swear that delay was’nt there yesterday, all sorted now mate.
Thanks for stopping by my site.

Great stuff Kevin I’m glad you got it all fixed up.
I hate pop-ups but I’m really going to look forward to your next video when you show us how to integrate graphics into our opt-in boxes. Now that’s something I definitely want to learn Dan.
So, I’ll be back my friend but great video. Easy to follow which are my favorites.

The general opinion for popups is the same Adrienne. I guess I’m just going through the bad things first. What I have noticed is there are a ton of authority blogs who use them. I’m going to do a little more research into it over the next few days.
Glad you liked the video Adrienne. The next one should be ready next week.
Thanks for stopping by
I am not a fan of pop ups but I use it on my blog because I find its the most effective way to get people to sign up and I have tested it. When I just have the signup box in my sidebar not much happens but there is a definitely increase in signups with the pop up so as much as I hate them you can’t argue with the stats I guess!

Hey Diane, I have spoke to a few people with popups on their blogs and they say the same. My friend John Thronhill seems to favor them as well as he has hardly any success with sidebar signups. I get most of my action from the eBook Cycle free download and that’s off site. I going to try a free download in the sidebar and integrate the eBook cycle elsewhere, also auto responder.
Thanks Diane
Hi Dan
Excellent video post mate.
Perfect for the newbie.

Cheers James, I will be getting more technical as the weeks go on as far as opt-in goes. It should make quite a good Youtube course when I’m done.
Heard you are going for a product per month? Is that right?
