Do you research or are you prepared to be taught? This is the question I get asked a lot. Well not exactly in those words but rather “Is it better to research my way to success or should I have a mentor or get help?”
My answer is “The choice is yours. We all have a choice of what we want to do and where we want to be in the future.” I did it the hard way and yeah it did take time but you do learn, and 4 years later things are going well.
If I told you to take on a coaching course would you believe me? Would you think it was the best course of action for you based on my advice? The thing is, many people want to succeed online but most guys won’t spend a penny trying to do it! Not that this is a bad thing by any means but the truth is there are so many guys wanting to start their internet marketing business without wanting to spend a single penny and quite frankly this attitude gets you nowhere.
Believe it or not one of the most common questions I get is “I don’t have any money can I start my business this way. Will you help me?”
Now if you think about this question a little you will find the immediate answer which probably springs to you is ‘NO’ starting your business with Zero Cash is impossible in my opinion. I would say get this no money attitude from your mind and think about spending a little rather than none.
I am going to cover some angles today and show you how you can start your business with very little cash and also start and boost your business with a small cash injection. These methods require small investments so if you want to start a business without spending a single penny then stop now and go rob a bank or dig for gold or something! (I was joking, please keep reading).
Ok here we go with the ‘very little’ cash injection method.
First I am going to present a list to you of the things you need when you want to start an online business:
1, First and foremost you need a hosting account to host your websites and give you an online presence. Now you can use a free hosting service but they are very poor, have very poor uptime and place ads all over your website which is not what you want at all, so hosting is essential. If you scrimp here you are already failing! Here is the hosting account which I use and would not go anywhere else. I have never had any problems with D9 and so I recommend you check them out. The price of hosting is less than $8 per month and a free domain name:
2, Once you have your hosting and domain name up and running you need to think about what your business is and what it is going to be about. Incidentally, you need to setup a domain name at registration of your hosting so it is beneficial to you that you have an idea of what your business is going to be called or what it is about. Give it some time to think about a domain name. Personally I can guarantee you will buy more in the future as you get more ideas.~
3, Now you have a domain name it’s time to grab more freebies and get yourself a blog from WordPress. Now if you have taken D9 hosting, there is a simple step through click setup to setup your blog with the ‘Fantastico’ link via your hosting cpanel.
Some hosting accounts do not have this link and your blog must be setup manually so if you choose an alternative hosting account be sure to check it out first before you sign up.
3, Once you have your blog online, it’s time for you to start blogging about your business and telling the world know who you are and what your business is. Being transparent is very advantageous when running your own online business. This shows people who you really are.
Post on other topic related blogs, this gives you an online presence. You will soon see traffic come back to your own websites by interacting with others in this way. When you offer good content to others they will listen to your opinions and in turn vist your blog for information and spread the word about your expertise.
Ok we now have a hosting account and an online blog which is generating you traffic and bringing in some traffic. All for $8 per month! You have an online business for $8 per month! How cool is that but it’s not enough, you now want to start to make money from this business.
Blogging is fair enough, you can make money from blogging and it’s a great source of information for guys to use and interact with you, but you need to make some cash from your blog. How can you do this?
How About Email Subscription and Collection?
4, If you have been around the internet marketing scene for a while you will have heard the saying ‘The Money is in The List’ thousands of times. And guess what? It’s true, your money really is in your list. If you have visitors to your blog and they like what they see they will subscribe to find out more. These days guys subscribe via RSS feed, so get your FeedBurner account setup as well. But most of all get your email collection subscription box setup to collect email addresses, this is essential.
There are a number of email collection and distribution companies out there which allow for email collection and also you as the user have the ability to broadcast email to the guys who are on your mailing lists, this creates more revenue for you in the form of affiliate commissions and promotions of your products. The companies that I can recommend are Aweber (My Personal Favourite) and Get response .
Once you have your signup box on your blog you are ready to start collecting emails, promoting products and bringing in some cash.
5, Monetize your blog is the next step. Add some Google AdSense to your blog, some paid ads to bring in that residual income. Granted it may not be a great deal as AdSense is not the best income but all the same many income streams make a river in the end, so get some ads on your blog.
Add some affiliate program banners. A Good place to find ads and banners related to your business is the Clickbank Marketplace you can use ads and banners from the market place once you sign up for a free account. You can then earn up to 75% commission on all products placed on your website. This is also a free tool and will earn you a commission based income from your blog.
Where Are We Now?
Ok you have spent $8 per month so far, with your auto responder in place you will spend another $9 if you use Wizard Responder. Total spent per month is now $17 per month. This is the base level of your business and you will make money, more than enough to cover your hosting and auto responder fee’s by a long way if you stick to your plan and keep working on your blog, posting to others and generating traffic in this way.
Remember when I mentioned the question:
“I don’t have any money can I start my business this way. Will you help me?”
Ask yourself the question? Would you spend $17 per month to create and manage your own business and have the potential to earn ten times as much in return? Of course you would it’s a no brainer. Granted it will start off a little slow at first, but what businesses don’t. Within a few weeks you will be earning your own income online and only spending $17 per month outgoings. There is not a business in the world which you can start on so little and have full control over.
What Next?
It’s time to create your own product. Once you have your blog online, your auto responder in place and your ads on your blog, it’s time to take your business to the next level. To do this you now need to think about product creation and what you want to achieve in the future.
I don’t know the nature of your business or its niche so here are a few ideas which you may want to take onboard.
• You can create an eBook which provides more information about your business, also add more information which you place in your blog. Adding more information adds value to your eBook and with this value sales will be made.
• How about a video series where you can supply online information to your subscribers and blog visitors. Instead of writing (which some people do have problems with) Try creating a video series as an alternative. I find writing easier but I also feel video can be more informative.
• What about a physical product which you can advertise to your blog subscribers and your mailing list subscribers? Get your business information made into a physical book, videos, workbooks and manuals and DVD’s and post it to buyers all over the world.
The first two examples I mentioned can also be free so there is nothing to add to your monthly cost. To create an eBook all you need to do is write! There are plenty of free tools across the internet for you to use to write eBooks. Take a look at Open Office Suite this has a writer and PDF converter to help you write and create your final downloadable eBook. Obviously you can use Microsoft Word, Mac iWork and more but Open Office is free and does the job no problem.
As for video the main video software I use is Camtasia by Techsmith, but again this is expensive it does have a free trial but in the end you will have to pay for it. How do you get free video? Bring in YouTube! Do you have a mobile smart phone? A video camera? All of these will replace Camtasia and cost nothing. Also a bonus for YouTube videos you will get more exposure and create traffic to your websites from YouTube as it acts rather like a second source to your site.
If you want screen capture software you can also replace Camtasia with CamStudio this will also help you run your business at a lower cost.
Physical products are something I am not really interested in due to the nature of my business. You must pay for something physical to be made so the cost of creating products does increase, however so does the sale price. Physical products can be sold in excess of $197 and anywhere up to 10k depending on what you provide because you must make a return on your investment and therefore profit from your creations. Digital products can be replicated unlimited amounts of times for free, but physical products cost every time you create a new one. Here are some companies that will help you out with distribution and book creation:
Kunaki Cd Creation and Shipping
Lulu Self Publishing Books
Moving On!
If your business is related to digital products then you will need a HTML editor to create sales pages, download pages, affiliates pages and thank you pages. HTML editors are another essential part of your online business and a necessity for products creation. The two main popular editors are Dream Weaver and Microsoft Expression Web both of these editors must be paid for but they are the best of the bunch.
I have searched for a decent HTML editor which comes close to these two editors and to be honest, I did struggle trying to find one with similar capabilities. The two I can recommend are Page Breeze and NVU. These will do the job but in my opinion nowhere near as much as Dream Weaver and Expression Web. However they are free and are a good start if you don’t want to pay for software.
Where Are We Now?
With your blog in place, mailing list in place and your first product in place or on the way you have achieved all of this by investing only $17 per month and some of your time. Well probably a lot of your time actually because I don’t expect you to be able to use all of the tools that I have mentioned above free or paid for without training or experience.
How can we combat this?
We have options to consider when creating products and managing your business. I have shown you how you can start, maintain and progress your business with minimal investment, but with this investment you must sacrifice time and time is a factor. You must use your time to learn all of the free tools mentioned and gain experience and train yourself to use them. There are three options to consider now.
Option 1,
Go it alone -Take your business into your own hands and manage your own software packages, updates, HTML pages, writing video tutorials and so on. Running your business this way gives you the advantage of learning as you go and have the ability to manage your own business without the help of others. It’s also cheaper as you do not need to pay for help or training.
The big disadvantage to this way of running your business is time and ability. Do you have the knowledge and the skill to manage your business in this way? Some guys are great at writing but very poor at HTML and creating pages. Some guys are the opposite, great with websites but poor content writers.
What about time? Do you have the time to create all of these products and also to teach yourself to learn the software packages? There are only so many tutorials you can watch or read about to help you.
Option 2,
Outsourcing – You can use internet services such as Elance to hire professionals to create products for you. This can be as cheap or expensive as you like depending on the service provider you hire. You can have everything and anything created for you from full saleable products to blogs and eBooks. This is a very quick and easy route to take if you are willing to invest.
The drawbacks to outsourcing are simple. You learn nothing of product creation and the tools you use. You rely on others to create products for you and change aspects of your business. However you minimise time and the stress of learning and get products online quickly.
If you lack skills in places then maybe this is a route you may want to consider.
Option 3,
Training courses – Are a simple and great way to learn and get your products online fast and gain knowledge at the same time. With a mentor you can learn all the aspects of your business and have the ability to manage your businesses to good effect. Time is reduced due to your enhanced knowledge and you are not relying on others to help you when you need an update or change.
The drawback is obviously the initial investment. Training courses can range anywhere from $497 to $10k. The choice is yours which courses to choose and if you want to pay the price.
For me the mentor route has the best advantages of the three options. You have the ability to learn and help yourself and the added advantage of an expert to help you. If you mix this up with Elance and outsourcing you will have your business running smooth and fast which is exactly how you want it.
Where Are We Now?

Don’t forget at this point you are still only investing around $17 per month into your business, but the turning point is here. You are at a crossroads where in one direction you can go to Self Learning, the other to Outsourcing and the third to Student and Teacher. Remember my answer earlier “The choice is yours. We all have a choice of what we want to do and where we want to be in the future.” Well this it. Personally I would take student and teacher as you benefit from training and expert help, time is reduced due to your enhanced knowledge and you are not relying on others to help you when you need an update or change.
You also have the advantages of a Joint Venture promotion with your teacher which can be worth a lot of money and the chance to build your list.
If you are short on funds then there is only one route to take. It is a long and drawn out process, but don’t give up. You will see reward.
If you take the mentor route and/or the outsourcing route then your monthly investment will rise to an average of $64 per month for the length of the course, or until your outsourcing fee’s are paid. Your investment will be recuperated from Joint Venture Partners (JV’s) with other marketers or your mentor so your investment will not actually be a loss rather a gain. It is this step that will make the most difference in your marketing business.
I can recommend a courses to you, which is suitably priced and will boost your business a great deal:
“The link below is an affiliated product. I do earn a commission from some of the paid products on my blog, but not all. I believe in these products and would not recommend them otherwise. I’m not in it just for the commission:-)”
Obviously there is a lot more to learn within your business and I have only covered the basics of getting started. I try to offer the right advice for all scenarios and the best value. I will cover more in the future which will help you so stay tuned
If you did reach the end well done you made it. I hope you enjoyed it and please feel free to let me know your thoughts.
Thanks for reading and I hope you take something away from this. It would make me very happy.

I have been online marketing since early 2005 where I started selling eBooks on eBay before the digital download ban. Once the ban took effect, I made the decision to take my business online and into general online marketing. eBooks were a good way to build affiliate revenue and mailing lists, but it was my blog and online marketing where I found my passion....

Hi Dan have read the whole post now, this is sound advice I tried to do all this stuff myself before I got a mentor, it sure cut the learning curve down and help was only an e-mail away.
Good advice.

Hi Robert,
Thank you for your comments. Mixing the whole process up is a great idea and does save you a lot of time in the long term. I never had the advantage of a mentor, however I did learn a lot of tips at University, so I had a little advantage to start with.
Hi Dan
Great post. This is exactly the sort of info I could have done with when I first started out. I probably wasted a few years looking for the easy button before coming across John Thornhill and after some time took his 16 week course. It was money well spent and although I encountered unrelated delays along the way I now have my first product live and with the benefit of John’s teachings and generosity with his time I am bursting with ideas for future projects.
I’d also add to your list doing workshops (they can be had at a bargain price). I attended a couple of Lee McIntyre’s workshops and boy are they good! Not only for content but meeting meeting other marketers and just generally getting a great uplift. As we all know it can be a lonely experience working away on your own.
Dan, most of all your post is tremendous because it highlights for anyone starting out a clear path to follow. Goodness knows I ran up a lot of blind alleys and dead ends (not to mention the cash spent) before I saw a clear path.
Well done Dan. I look forward to more great advice.
best regards
Doug
Hi Doug,
Cool Comments thanks. I was at Lee’s event in Manchester and did learn a great deal from him.
You are right workshops are a great way to gather info, meet guys and network your way to JV partnerships.
Thanks Doug
Some sound advice there Dan, you could have even made this post into a full blown report or video series.
Having a mentor really can fast track you to success, it took me years to become successful because I didn’t have anyone to mentor me so I know how important this is.

I totally agree with you on this. Having a mentor can really fast track your success. And I’m really happy having a mentor who’s guiding me all throughout.

Hey Gary,
Thanks for the comments. It does seem that a mentors give you a leg up and fast track your business!
Hi Dan, excellent post with the step by step guide. I spent way to long going around in circles thinking i could it cheaper going alone. What a fool i was, going in circles repeating those circles on a regular basis.

Yes Daniel, it’s great to finally have some direction and see the road ahead opening up.
I highly recommend getting a mentor, and the only one i will recommend is……..John Thornhill.
Not that i’m knocking the others but i recommend what i know.

Hi Tom,
Glad I could help Tom! Let me know when you join John’s course and if you need a hand
Hi Dan,
Excellent sound advice as usual!! I have done a combination of self learning and the mentor path plus visiting seminars when ever I could.
I would have liked to fast track things more, however as well as limited money we also have to factor in the time constraints. Some of us have the time to learn fast and implement fast and others do not.
I guess like most I have taken the slow road and I am no where near successful as I would like to be, however what I do appreciate is that through learning from John and meeting you, Dave and Randy I have learned so much and I do believe that if I had not have made the decision to sign up to John’s coaching 2 years ago I would still be fumbling my way around. Now I know how to fish, it is just a case of going fishing!
“No one can be successful on their own” That was a comment from the book “The one minute millionaire”

Hi Dan, great post, very well explained with exact figures too for anyone who wants to know the details. The only difficulty I had at the very beginning is although I saw credit balances accumulating on the adsense and clickbank accounts I was never told they do not pay out until you reach a certain level, so you can wait an awful long time for that first cheque!
Enjoy the journey.

There’s such a lot of great info in your post, that I wanted to agree with everything you said.
Including the three recommendations for mentoring… all great resources from really nice guys!!
But I also wanted to say thanks for the mention of WizardResponder (as you know – so many guru’s don’t like to mention it cos the commissions are so much lower because of our more affordable pricing), It does show that you care about your readers to recommend products that might not pay as well as the usual recommendations

Hi Dan,
Are these the same people that if they do start making a bit of money with there blogger blog, they take all the money out and say “it’s Mine” your not having any.
How the hell does anybody think they can start a business with nothing.
I know you here it on the Tv, take Peter Jones as an example. A very successful and very reach bloke. He built his business from nothing, not started it with nothing. There is a massive difference.
Great post by the way.
Thanks

Pete Carr´s last [type] ..Blogging-Why You Should BePart 1
Yes Pete exactly. I find it very strange how you can start a business from fresh air? ‘All you need is an internet connection!’ We hear it all the time, every day the email titles that suck you in ‘Mr X built his business from nothing to 1million a day’
Yeah yeah. Bet even he has a hosting account.
Thanks Pete great comments
Hi Dan –
Great post – read it all the way through and you make it all sound so simple. I found a mentor (JT) and believe it is the way forward. You do not need to reinvent the wheel – you want to run a business onlone? Then find a business model in line with your ethics/time/personality and COPY it. Simple? Yes. Easy? No.
For me one of the great stumbling blocks is technical inability. Every time I hit a block and have to “go away and learn how to do it”, I find it’s easy to “lose” your way. Being constantly bombarded by emails advertising the “latest best thing” is distracting and until you find someone you can trust, everything looks tempting.
“Choose, focus, believe”. You can make it online on your own, but a mentor makes it a whole LOT easier!
Cheers!

I feel I have a little advantage when it comes to product creation and technical issues as I have been doing it for a long time. I learned a lot from Uni and most of it from being support manager for John as well.
In my experience however if you can’t do something outsourcing is always an option and a lot faster than learning. I know of at least 5 marketers who have no technical ability at all and earn a massive income online.

Hey Dan Excellent post, I couldnt agree more with all of your advice. I choose the path of getting a mentor as I found it the quickest way to get myself up to speed with all the skills required to run an online bussiness. Going it alone is a tough way to go as more than likely we always have some areas of weakness requiring help and having a mentor close at hand is a great way to go. I like the way you have laid out the story and woven in the solution at the very end Well done!

Hello Dan,
I started out following a mentor and I’m really glad I did. There is a lot of information available online. Trying to organize it in a fashion that makes sense – as you’ve done in your post – takes time and can easily lead to frustration with so many options showing up and choices of things to do. You’ve created a nice road map here.

Hi Daniel,
Great post. I love it when people write what you want to know, not all fluff and bells. This is the perfect post for people not knowing if they want to get in the Internet Marketing world. You explain all the steps in an easy, detailed way so that even the people who don’t know anything about computers can easily understand. One thing you tell people is the cost’s involved. Most other people just say you need this, you need that and if you are a newbie you have no idea what these things are, far less the price.
In regard to mentors, I struggled to try and do things by myself for a long time. Then I finally decided that I needed help. Without John Thornhill’s Marketing Masterclass I would not even have a blog and I would still be struggling.
Thanks again for a great post.
Take care.

Hi Dan
Great post! There’s no such thing as a free lunch but surely almost everyone can afford hosting and a domain name. Even if they can’t, they can always sell some of their old books and dvd’s on eBay or Amazon to raise the cash. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Lynn
Hi Lynn,
‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way’ Of course there is.
I know it can be hard to start your online business and the initial investement can also be hard to find, however in order to become great you have to start at the beginning and give it your best shot!
Thank you for the comments
Hi Dan,
Getting a mentor is by far is the best decision I had made. Mine is Alex Jeffrey. Before that I tried to figure everything out by myself, but eventually still spend a considerable amount of money. No doubt I did progress that way. But when I enrolled into Alex’s coaching, I progress more in 3 months than my previous 2 years of self discovery.
My 1st impression with your post here is the same as John. What you wrote here is what a lot will put in an ebook in return for an opt in. Yet when you provide it all free on your post here, you had added much credibility for yourself. I had been blog hopping intensively for the pass 2 weeks or so and had seen a number of people doing the same, providing up front good information without any request whatsoever. Yours by far is the most detailed. I am impressed and will subscribe to your RSS immediately after I end my comment here.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers

Hi Jason,
Yeah I like Alex and his success rate is very high for his students! Best of luck with the course, don’t forget to let me know how you are getting on with it and if you need anything just ask!
I hope to provide more info in the future here and create some very large and detailed key posts to relate to.
Thanks for stopping by. I will be back to your blog shortly
Hello Daniel,
I had just started my own blog and I must say your post comes at the right timing for me. You make it so detailed and systematic. Your advice will save me from doing other unneccessary works. At the moment my personal teacher is Jason and I have also taken Joshua Haye’s online coaching class, I think I agree with what you said, the mentor can help us to get the whole picture sooner. So I can focus on what I want to write on the blog, because eventually, valuable content brings the valuable sales.

Hi Dan
This is a very comprehensive post that all aspiring internet marketers should read very carefully.
As you know I chose the training course route with John Thornhill (and your good self providing the much needed technical support!) and I have no hesitation in recommending this route to anyone who is serious about building their own online biz.
Yes, it costs money but you have a much higher chance of success than going it alone.

Hi Daniel,
Great post, well written.
You are right when you say that having a mentor is the best way to go.
Apart from speeding up the learning curve you also find that you are not on your own and if you are unsure of something there are usually plenty of ways of getting your answer – from your mentor or his forum.
However, if the cost is a problem I think reading this post should get anyone started!

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the comments.
My post will help anyone looking to start a business, however if technical knowledge is an issue then my advice would be, take a mentor route anyway as it will help and make a huge difference.
Cost is always an issue, however such a small investment will go a long way!
Hi Dan
I love the fact that you focus on the $17. As this is really all you need to start building a reputation online, once this is done with your blog, you can begin to move outwards into the wider marketing world, and this is the key to business success. Make each thing work as you go, do not create a trail of chaos and half finished projects around yourself.

Hi Dan!

Sorry it took me a minute to get over here. Blog hopping is fun, but a little time consuming!!
I think mentoring is the way to go and you know that cause I am in JT’s class. The only drawback??
Videos make me crazy!! Even with the support at a lot of the hosting places and auto responders. I am not a video learning kind of girl.
When I get sent to a video for how to support, I just say screw it, and off I go looking for a different way to learn what I need to do
I know it’s easier for businesses to show people how to do the basic stuff, but there is no way to ask questions or get feedback except for the support desk.
I need some real one on one training!! That’s how I learned how to do pretty much everything I do on the blog.
I do realize that companies can’t give everyone that kind of training, but it sure helps!
Camtasia? Got it,don’t know how to use it!! Sucks, huh?
So maybe outsourcing a one on one teacher would be good for me? Hmmmm….let me go find Randy, he’s awesome!
Believe me….I wish I could learn from videos!!! Maybe if folks would put it into a step by step ebook with pictures and a Skype type support, I could learn all of it!!
Take care and this post is awesome! You are so smart!
Thanks!!

‘Blog hopping is fun, but a little time consuming!!’
Tell me about it. I am aiming for around 10 per day as it’s a whole lot of reading especially if the posts are as big a mine!
Hmmm you could be in a little bit of a pickle here Lisa? No Video! I learned from static pictures like you say and that was hard! I often thought about the idea of desktop control of clients PC’s then I could show the person how to do something on their PC as I was doing it but time and time zones is always a factor here.
I think maybe you need a workshop with one on one training? I would list my most important problem areas, and then build another list of solutions to combat them.
The most problematic areas you may have to source locally? You don’t say what they are but I’m guessing it’s HTML and the techie side rather than the creative side? Try local colleges? Or a small ad in the local newspaper asking for help?
I recommended this to one of John’s first coaching students and it worked great for him. I used to deal with him and the guy he hired, and helped them both to succeed!
Thanks for stopping by Lisa, hope this helps. Let me know how you get on
Hi Dan,
wow, you covered it all! I think I’ll have to copy this post and send it to my outsourced worker to follow you’ve outlined it so well.
Having come through John’s course last year I can affirmatively say that I am so glad that he pushes us to create our own products and sales pages etc. I really disliked doing some of it but now I know the steps that go into doing these activities and I can now outsource this intelligently if I want.
Couldn’t agree with you more though…if someone really wants to move forward at a reasonable pace…then going the student teacher route is the way to go. And as you mentioned…you have a network built in and a teacher to possibly JV with. These things are priceless.
There are many ways of getting there…the choice is ours…
wise advice

Hi Dan,
Some fantastic advice here! Many newbies will find your post a breath of fresh air. A mentor is vital to becoming successful. Being taught by someone who has already walked the walk and talked the talk.
Now if you went into becoming a brain surgeon, you would not just rush into theatre with a scalpel and start hacking away at your patient. You will need to learn the skills and be taught by an expert. It’s the same online.
Find a mentor who can show you the ropes. Someone you can trust and rely on. But remember you will have to do some work. You can take a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. You can give an apprentice all the tools to a ready made business but they can not run it without the expert training.
Cheers
Craig
Hi Craig,
Unfortunately some guys do just ‘rush into theatre with a scalpel and start hacking away’ it’s the way they are. They are also surprised when they don’t do very well with their business model.
You can do it alone, but if you are serious about fast tracking and learning the do’s and the don’ts mentors are essential.
Great advice Daniel. Many people think they have not got the money to spend on mentoring or a coaching course but it’s often a mater of reallocating the funds.
People often spend a lot on leisure and entertainment that could go towards their business instead.

That’s an excellent commonsense post and one that newbies could use as a blueprint. I am new to this IM business but luckily found JT after a couple of months research, so had my mentor at an early stage, which probably avoided a lot of wasted cash.
I sometimes get frustrated at the progress I am making when I see how some of you guys are doing but have to remind myself that you are old hands at this game now and have earned your rewards through hard work and perserverence.
My route will be through my own product creation and like yourself I quite enjoy writing so hopefully this will get me where I want to be in time.

Phew! That’s a very comprehensive Internet Markting post Daniel. I could have done with this when I first started, it puts everything into perspective.
I spent 12 months trying to learn all the new software progammes needed, and started to suffer from ‘information overload’. I didn’t want to outsource, I like having total control over my business.
You are quite right, my business prospects was transformed from going around in circles, to getting somewhere, when I enrolled in John Thornhill’s Masterclass.
I would recommend getting a mentor to any newbie.

Hi Daniel,
Ok, after reading the shortest blog post of the challenge I’ve just read the LOOOONGEST post and one the best blog posts in the challenge. WOW man you are actually giving away a LOT of first-rate information, step-by step that most of the marketers would sell for at least $297!!
Anyhow I would HIGHLY recommend getting a mentor and joining a video course. Getting a mentor and joining a $1997 course is the best investment that a serious newbie internet marketer will make!!
If you want to succeed online you either have to invest your money on a mentor (usually $1,000-$5,000) or invest a LOT of your time learning EVERYTHING you can find online and trying them.
Well most methods just don’t work any more but you don’t actually find it out until you lose plenty of your personal time. Until the next shinny discovery of course!!
You are not only losing time but also money (there are people that spent MORE than $50,000!!!) trying to find the correct way on useless information!
Anyway what most newbies do is they are trying on their own ways to success by learning, learning new things all the time without doing anything productive. After all the information overload, they see that a mentor can show them the correct way and avoiding spending time and money on things that are useless and will never help them grow their business. I used to be one of them too of “lost” A LOT of my personal time for building my online business. I wish I had a mentor when I first started online. (that was 8 years ago and that’s a long time …
)
Well my mentor is Ray Johnson and “hiring him” was one of the best decisions I’ve made in the last years. Ray is an excellent motivator always trying encouraging me and helping me as more as he can so that I can succeed. He is an internet marketer that really cares about his subscribers and always tries to help them out.
Other respected marketers with good mentoring as John Thornhill, Alex Jeffrey, Lee McIntyre etc.
Take care,
Andreas

Yeah I know it was a bit long and did actually think about the amount of guys who would read this post in the 100 comments challenge

Thanks again Andreas
Hey Dan,
Just want to touch on the area of outsourcing as far as having your own products created for you, it reminded about all the ‘fortune 500 companies’, that are being liquidated, and how you can research and find the ones in the ‘software’ niche, you know you can actually buy the rights to lucrative software products as PLR and make them your own by having them professionally re-pakaged and presented as a new product to the market by using the sites you mention like ‘Elance’!
But my suggestion, would be to have a great team of ready made outsourced workers for this job, out in the phillipines, a team of people you will grow to know trust and count on every time you want high converting software re-created as your own!
At the moment Im looking into these companies, and if I can find potential in aqiring rights to their software, I will consider approaching ‘Kathy Dobson’, she is becoming a sure bet on which outsourcing rd to take with contacts in tow!
Great post as a whole by the way Dan….Ed.

Hi Ed,
I have been in touch with a lot of outsourcing companies and have been burned a couple of times too. Be careful mate, make sure they do the job right. It’s not always the cheapest which is always the best.
India have some excellent programmers. We use a guy for Multi Profit Websites who is awesome and very decently priced. Dave Nicholson has his details if you want them.
Thanks for the comments Ed
Talk about thorough guide to creating a online business.
I just wanted to add a reply to your remark at the top, should you research or get a mentor?
I think you should do both.
Start with doing research and get a good basic knowledge and then find yourself a mentor. You never want to be completely in the hands of someone else, you want to be able to see when the things they are saying are correct and when they are not.
But having a mentor truly works as a shortcut as they can hold you by the hand and guide you through the confusion.

Hi Daniel, Well done! You covered a lot of ground here but the messages are quite clear. We have to spend something but not necessarily a ton, internet marketing is based on a system or a process, and mentoring is highly recommended to fully understand the things that we don’t even know we need to know. Good luck in the challenge Daniel, Steve D.

Thanks for stopping by and for giving such great comments. I think all the comments on the blog or on the side of mentors. It does look the like right choice!
Hi Dan
Some great advice and its almost a plan or a roadmap for beginners … I think in one of the comments on another blog, I mentioned about newbies not really knowing the potential of a blog early enough in their IM career and how financially it is within reach of people wanting to start an internet business.
Most of us come across these heavily tagged products and that’s where our internet marketing career starts – probably at the wrong foot. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that these products are not good, but what would you do of a backlink creator program if you don’t have a blog – you know what I mean?
I have been on Alex Jeffrey’s coaching program and I completely agree that having a mentor and a “FORUM” of fellow students is very vital. That’s where the learning curve rises, healthy competition comes in and motivation from your buddies helps move forward.
Nice to meet you!
Cheers!
Abizer
Hi Abizer,
Yeah you are right. Guys do tend to buy the next big thing and not know what to do with it or where to start.
They impulse buy to live the dream from a very promising sales page. Except they find themselves out of their depth when the product doesn’t take them through every simple step to creating a marketing business.
If you are going to make an online business you need to start at the start and progress, and a blog is the best place to start. Blog – Read – Research – Create – Expert – Teach in that order. That’s my roadmap.
Thanks for stoping by
