In short the answer is no they are not. But first let me explain.
Internet marketing over the past few years has not changed massively if you look at in terms of what you do to make money online. We can still make money from list building, developing products, blogging, Google, niche sites, and affiliate marketing etc. These techniques are the essence of internet marketing and will be around forever.
What has changed is the way we market these products and the mediums we market them on. Take Facebook for example, it’s now the busiest and highest ranking website in the world, social networking has exploded into a whole new medium to market our products on, by way of advertising and passing information to ‘friends’ and ‘fans’ about what’s new and valuable. Using social sites is a new concept and we make money by funnelling traffic from these new and ‘in the moment’ websites to our products and product niches.
Are we still pushing the old techniques and core fundamentals of marketing? What do you think?
Are people still advertising for example:
• That Twitter and Facebook guide. The one you advertise as a freebie download to build your list? Fairly new topic but old technique
• That sales letter to your eBay product you have on Clickbank? Old
• That ‘easy way to internet market’ video you have up for sale on your sales page? Old
• Your latest blog post about Fiver and a link to an affiliates Fiver guide? Once again new topic but old affiliate marketing technique
We all try to get onboard with the latest technique but the core essence of internet marketing still remains. These factors still remain:
1. Sales pages
2. Squeeze pages
3. Blogs
4. Product Development
5. Adsense and Alternative website advertising
6. Affiliate marketing
7. list building
It doesn’t matter which way you look at it the old internet marketing techniques have merely been tweaked a little to provide a better strike rate:
1. Sales pages have more appealing exit pops
2. Graphics get better as well as video technology
3. Squeeze pages get swapped using ad swaps
4. Blogs get better plugins and SEO updates
5. Better sales funnels processes to high end products
6. Advances in technology to create better products
As you can see from the examples above we have moved on, but we are still using the same core techniques to do it.
Now the big question is? Do you know how to use these techniques, are you up to speed? I have all of these in place right now earning me an income in one form or another. Take another look at the list:
1. Sales pages
2. Squeeze pages
3. Blogs
4. Product Development
5. Adsense and Alternative website advertising
6. Affiliate marketing
7. list building
Do you have all of the above in place?
I see everyday a new magic bullet and new push button, 4 step, 3 step, no step system to success which is guaranteed to make you a millionaire in two days, today, now! I have been in this business long enough to see when the only person who is ever going to make money from this type of product is the person selling it. I have yet to see one of these so called autopilot income sites actually work as they say they do.
The point is if they are making as much as they are suggesting from their sales letters and selling for so little why share it? E.g. ‘Expert traffic guru brings in $200,387.00 per month on complete auto pilot and is giving you the secret software’ All yours for a mere $27!! If you were making 200k per month would you sell your secret for folks to copy for $27? You would have to sell over 7000 units per month to break even (not an easy task) then you flood your market, gaining 7000 competitors per month! Or has your market already been flooded, and you are selling your now useless software to the ever gullible magic bullet buying public?
It’s marking techniques like this that keeps guys buying over and over again, looking for the next shiny program that they think is going to make them a million because the sales letter explains it all so well. Key words like auto pilot, instant results, 200k per month, secret software bla bla bla all have a hand in pushing you toward the next million dollar dream.
Here is what I say
Screw the magic bullet and start learning the fundamental core techniques to internet marketing. The old internet marketing techniques do work and always will. If you don’t learn how to use them before anything else you will be magic bullet buying for the rest of your making money online days. By learning these techniques you give yourself a chance to become the creator and the authority rather than the follower.
Do I have a point? I want your opinion on this one
I also have a nice little core fundamental training course for you. Its $20 and damn worth it. I actually helped write some of the modules myself check it out here:

Actually I think it all goes back to before the rise of the Internet. It’s all about learning the fundamentals of marketing – not just internet marketing.
Even before the Internet, people would build, buy and sell mailing lists, but they would come in the form of a printed list, or if you were lucky, a text file on a floppy disk.
Sales pages were ads in newspapers and magazines, flyers delivered in free newspapers, or more importantly the mail-shot to the mailing lists.
They also acted as squeeze pages; “Send an SAE for your free gift…” or “Answers on the back of a postcard…”.
You could even say that the door-to-door salesman was the equivalent of today’s spam – the unsolicited sales call.
The fundamental techniques are all the same, and it’s those that you have to learn – it’s just the media that have changed.
Yeah Phil you are right the evolution of old sales techniques has simply progressed into the internet. By looking at these techniques we can apply them to our own internet businesses. I often check out the sales techniques of the guys who come to my door or call me up on the phone. I think it’s just habit, but also I look and think how I could improve their sales techniques to make a sale.
Great comment Phil thanks
Hi Daniel
You’re certainly bang on Q with this post…Social Media is really driving new ways of doing things, but as you’ve said it is a marketing tool for getting exposed, the very nature of it all, is the viral effect it takes on when people are on these social media channels; that’s how I came upon your post so quick, by being on the likes of Facebook you get to see things as they happen…& fast.
I’ll agree with you that all of the above you’ve mentioned, i.e. Internet marketing — developing products, blogging, Google, niche sites, and affiliate marketing etc. will never die off & are the area’s that new online marketers coming online for the first, should be learning well first.

Hi Daniel
It takes a long time, a lot of wasted money and a lot of disappointments for newbies to realise that there is no magic button. You have to build an online business the same way as an offline business, brick by brick with a solid foundation. It takes time and hard work to get established and good avice from people like yourself.

Hi Dee,
Thank you for the comment. It does take time and dedication to build your business. I for one would love to by the next golden bullet and make a million tomorrow, but in truth it just ain’t going to happen. It’s exactly as you said it all boils down to hard work and dedication.
Thanks Dee
Absolutely 100% agree with you there fella.
It takes time and effort as in all businesses.
No fast tracks…and it’s sad to see so many “guru” rubbish peddlers telling you it takes 3 clicks!
Stick with people like Dan, John Thornhill and build steadily
Success will come
I started about a year ago with nothing except around £20 and an idea for a blogsite/product….its grown and now does well
it takes time..brick by brick as you say.
Hey Tony thanks for your comments and well done with your business. You should write about your experience and how you started with £20 I would like to read it
Hi Dan, I do believe that new marketers get to a point where they realise the value of these techniques, and recognise that they are literally the best way to go. It does take time, there is no magic button, but I guess for some there is always hope that the product that seems to good to be true actually isn’t…
Enjoy the journey.

Can’t agree more Mandy, it takes time to sink in that it’s not the dream that was sold to you. Most things take time and dedication. It’s true that 99% of internet marketers fail in the first few months simply because it’s not exactly what was sold to them. People love the dream but not the hard work that goes with it.
Thanks for your valuable comments Mandy
Your info is good and sound.I have bought a lot of stuff from these internet gurus and I don’t like to admit that I was duped.I lost interest in them rapidly because these things are too technical and a lot of work for someone who doesn’t know much about internet marketing to start with.My biggest problem is that I don’t know how to even post my links to my website, so no wonder I don’t make any money. If someone would come up with an article explaining how to do this,it would help a lot of people. The gurus give you a free website, but what use is it if I don’t know how to place my own links there? I am talking about affiliate links such as click bank and Amazon just to begin with.

I remember when I first started as a newbie and how hard it was. Wow it was a challenge, but you do get there if you stick with it.
I already have a full training tutorial and blog setup guide within the PLRmonthly.com members area (Gold Section). You do have to pay for it, but the training is well worth it. I don’t like plugging my products within the comment section so if you would like to talk more about this then drop me an email. Just hit reply to the emails I send or use the contact section here.
Thanks for the comment Chris and I hope you do find your way. I am here to help if you need it.
To succeed takes hard work and dedication, When you first start there is a huge learning curve, this takes time. I don’t know of anyone who has done really well in less than 6 months. We live in a society where we want instant results . That is why even though people know deep down that it won’t work they have to have it. I agree the fundamentals are the same , Rather than give away an ebook like everyone else, have a free webinar to build your list, link it to a fanpage and get likes, Make an Mp3 with someone who is respected. One alarming trend I noticed is what I call tag team lists you get a free product and are put on a list then they send you another free gift and you sign up to someone elses list and so on. This does not work The key is building a relationship , you do that by being noticed and helpful, posting on walls sending out informative tweets , sending out newsletters to your list Once you build a relationship you then have a market for your product That is how to succeed and yeah it is hard work but every marketer I respect is not afraid to show their face and stand by their product and can be contacted easily
Greg Chirinian recently posted..There’s More Than One Way To Accomplish Your Goals
HI Greg,
I have seen success in less than 6 months (not me BTW). I think this is the only business where you can see it. These successes usually come on the back of a great promotion from the big players such as Frank Kern and the Mike Filsaim’s. These guys can rack you up $500,000 from one promotion in some cases. Tag team lists sounds a little like Ad Swapping and being passed from one list to another, in effect getting your head filled with info overload looking for stability. I feel so sorry for the newbies who get caught up in this scenario. It’s wasn’t a bad way to make an affiliate income, but it has become a little flooded now in my opinion.
I always try my best to provide products and info that works and provide a service, rather than just thinking about the $$ all of the time.
Excellent comment Greg thanks
Hey Dan,
Back in 1986 we had a jewelry auction and we had people sign in at the door the night of the auction. Every week we would send flyers out (snail mail) to our list. Worked then and it still works today except the delivery has changed.
It does take time to build on all the methods you talk about for long term success but once they start working it is so worth it.
I feel like ‘buying the dream’ that is peddled by some is just part of the learning curve that one must go through in order to get to the other side but for some it just never ends.

I still get loads of mail offer Wayne and I still look at them. We all feel like buying the dream at some stage or another, if I see a good sales letter which makes me want to buy, I bookmark it in my ‘sales page home work folder’ if the product looks good I will also buy it, but I can’t bring myself to buy into all these automated systems. It’s just not me.
Thanks Wayne.
Hi Dan,
Yes you are right you use the old tried and true method that is known to work. You will be laying the foundations for your business. Once the foundations are laid you build up with old and new mixed in with the old.
This combination should bring in new avenues of business. I’m still not on face book yet I been thinking of joining but I’m still not sure if it secure I worry about being hacked. Do you encounter many problems with being a member on face book?

Hi Daniel,
A very interesting post. You are correct on all accounts. I myself has bought more products than you can shake a hairy stick. Don’t get me wrong a lot of the products are helping me a lot. I’ve bought from John Thornhill, Stuart Turnbull, dave Nicholson to name 3 people. What my problem is putting everything to good use. I’ll start on one project, leave it half way through and go on to the next one.
That will change, it has to, otherwise I’ll be stuck in a rut indefinately.
Good post mate.

That is so true.
I don’t know how many times I have said “the only person making any money with all of these so called get rich quick schemes is the person selling the product.”
The truth is you are not going to make 2 million dollars in 2 weeks no matter how push button it is.
It takes work and doing the things all of the old things you listed.

Hi Dan,
It’s amazing how many people forget these basic concepts yet consider themselves to be an internet marketer because they’ve spent money buying the courses. Almost everyone that goes onto be successful will secumb to these offers at the start, it’s part of the learning curve.
The most important lesson is that YOU need to take action to get results, even with the best salespage in the world you’re going to make no sales if you don’t generate any traffic. Getting back on track the correct basic skills will always apply, just the medium that changes – these skill would have applied to direct marketing 20 years ago.
#1 product
#2 salesletter in the post to prospect
#3 follow-up and create relationship
The only difference was that advertising costs were higher and results weren’t instant.

Hi there Daniel,
Well done! Because from my point of view there is no short way of telling marketers the requirements needed in marketing without some previous selling experience.
I believe that you have done an excellent job of explaining a lot of the unknowns, some marketers certainly wouldn’t have even knew existed. Without being armed with this type of information they could well head off in the wrong direction and finish up in that proverbial dead end.
Most likely there are a lot of marketers who haven’t had any previous exposure to physical selling or some other sort of selling online (ie) eBay and such, so they need all the help they can muster.
Its the good and sincere marketers who offer such advice, because they have been there themselves and understand how easy it can be to head off in the wrong direction and finish up being burn quite severely.
I enjoyed the read and look forward to receiving your next informative post that hopefully will contain exactly the same type of content, plain old facts as they are and not buttered up.

I agree with your post but we need to remember the person selling you the million
dollar making software or information isn’t interested in whether you make money
or not. They are only interested in making money for themselves. They don’t tell you
the whole story or plan because they want to keep you guessing so you will buy their
next product.
A word to the wise and I know you have heard it many times before;
If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
Hey Delton,
I agree with you on a certain level, but not everyone is out to scam you. There are actually guys in this business who would like to help and provide information which can kick start your online business.
I have plans for a mentoring course and I would dread to think that the guys who pay for my help would think of me as a someone who was just going to take my money without helping them?
It’s time like this Delton when you have to sort the bad guys from the good guys.
