Product Development Tips and Mind Mapping

by Daniel in General,Marketing

How much do you know about mind mapping and product development? I would really love for you to help out here and get involved in some planning that I have been thinking about lately.

As you may know I own quite a successful PLR company called PLR Monthly which supplies PLR every month to its current members to use as they see fit. You can check out a review here if you are interested, as plugging the site is not my intentions.

My intentions are simple. In true continuous improvement style (the Japanese call it Kaizen) I want to improve PLR Monthly to help the new members and generate more revenue streams. Simple..

Bring in the mind map

What I have done is created a mind map of all the ideas I have been thinking about lately and placed them on my virtual backboard for you to take a look at and get involved in. I want to know what you think. No matter how wild or wacky, just throw it out there in the comments section.

Check out the video below, it’s also in HD if you go full screen and change to 720p

Thanks for watching I do appreciate you taking the time to get involved. I will be creating more videos on mind mapping and product development in the future so stay tuned for more blackboard activity.

As always please feel free to comment, especially on this one as I would like your input good or bad just throw it in there.

Don’t forget to share the love :-D

Hi Daniel
I have been a lifetime member since PLRM first started and unfortunately don’t take advantage of it. One of the reasons is time and finaces. Time to rewrite it and finances for graphics. I don’t believe in using PLR as is, I am not a sheep. (I may be a cow at times however! LOL)
If I wasn’t a lifetime member, I probably wouldn’t still be a member due to finaces. Having to retire suddenly with no planning when Eddie was seriously ill was a great blow to my bank account.
I think a blog is a good idea mainly because you can interact and find out what people think and what they would like to see.
I think special packages are a good idea depending on what they consist of and how many people would use all the package.
Ever thought of doing plug ins? I think WP themes are overdone these days, but how about leaning towards WordPress users?
What about ‘How to’ on the blog? Including how to upload and OTO?

lol Dee you’re funny. Using PLR is not for everyone, but it is a popular way to get content fast.

I don’t think I would directly use the bog platform for commenting on all pages, it wouldn’t even look like a blog on the home page. I would dedicate a comment section on one of the pages, or rather a feedback and communication section. This would allow interaction.

The special limited packages are a must, this does allow choice and variation of what people want.

I do have a plugin in mind at the moment, just have to post the job on Elance and get some cost back. That shouldn’t be too hard to do.

The training modules are part of the members area, and we have a full how to blog section about niche site setup.

Thanks for input Dee :-D

Hi Daniel
I think I have enough products on my hard drive to last me several lifetimes!
I joined a giveaway as a member to help a friend and the last 4 pages were all the same products, same graphics, same everything. You need to make PLR your own.
I think this is the year of Kindle, and Amazon have already done the ‘slap’, but how about Kindle format?

Hey Dee, we have a video in the members area discussing the Kindle marketplace and how to upload the eBooks, so I think we have that covered :-D

Hey Daniel
As a customer, I like the idea of having the option of limited PLR packages for when I plan to change the graphics and buy my own for a project.

Brainstorm idea (do not know if this is the type of ideas you wanted or not?)…… offer some type of membership or package where you can ‘select’ the PLRs you want off a list. For example….. For X amount of dollars, I can select 3 PLRs from a long list ….or for X dollars I can select 5 PLRs from a list. This will allow the customer to buy a few PLRs on only the specific topics that they are looking for (but knowing they will get quality because it is from a trusted source).

Hi Mary,

The limited packages should go ahead I would think. As for your brainstorming idea, this will also go ahead as this is what we have been lookinig into. Providing options I think is the way to go in the future.

To get all this to work we need more traffic, that’s why we are changing to a wordpress framework and adding more pages. This should push the site up the ranking for our key word list.

Thanks for the input Mary.

I’m not sure, I had a hard time hearing you, so not sure if it was because you weren’t close enough to the mic, because I had my volume on my speakers all the way up and still couldn’t hear :( However, Yes, I think a course on that on how to properly run a membership site, get one up and running, PLR content would be a great way to get content to offer members as long as it is HIGH Quality! :)

Hi
I found the process and comments very interesting.
Your object is to provide a system that will generate income for you and value for your customer.
Have you thought about a fan page connected to your site that will encourage comments which will in turn add content to your site continuously. Done correctly it could add a viral element to your system. Cloak it with the other social sites and first page of google is yours for the taking.
Looking at the issue of value for the customer, This is a serious issue that must be addressed by all who are providing value for their customers. I have seen so many offhandedly state a “digital product and perceived value” will meet the customers needs.( I am not so rude as to suggest you are doing it) Initially that is good for engaging your customer. At the heart of the issue is the real need that set your customer off on her journey in the first place. If you engage at that level then the world is your oyster.
Have you ever had a long cool drink and felt thirsty still? It is that kind of thirst we should aim to satisfy in the service or value we provide. In today’s climate that could well be ‘over delivering’ but it is what will set apart the winners from the also runs. regards James

Hi James,

Thanks for the fan page info. We used to have one a year or so ago, but it never took off. Neglect to be honest. I will start to look into this again as the year goes on.

We do provide a great deal of info for the members in their packages that’s for sure. All tutorials are added in there too to direct the members on the right path, it just a matter of the members taking action.

Over delivering is the plan James.

Thanks for your input much appreciated.

Hi Daniel

I like where you are heading. I have been a fan of Dave and yourself for a few years now and the only reason I am not a paid up member of PLRM is financial.
I belong to a couple of membership sites, but only because I am an affiliate and my income pays my monthly fees.
I need to take one of your PLR packages and improve it, sell it and then use the income to purchase more. In other words it has to be self financing so therefore special package offers could be ideal as eventually you will produce a special package of interest to the customer.

Best wishes to your endeavours

Tony

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the post.

I think a series of free webinars on how to use PLR and what it can be used for would be helpful.

I’m a very visual person and love to see videos going through the backend of the site and explaining what to do once your get to the download sections. As it stands (please don’t take this the wrong way), there isn’t anything that differentiates your program from anyone else’s out there.

I’d personally consider taking part in either a free trial or $1 offer to have a snoop around and see if it’s the right fit for my business. If the content is good, then I’d continue to pay the monthly subscription. I’ve gotten to know you over the past few months so the “like” “know” “trust” factor is pretty high. A new visitor to the site probably wouldn’t purchase from that sales page, so producing it in a blog type format would be great and should improve conversions.

Video testimonials on the blog/sales page of all the happy customers that are subscribed and the success they’ve had.

Maybe do a video presentation each month going through the newest additions to the site. I’m guessing the content is up to date and relevant so that could be a nice selling point.

I notice Jon Ledger does something similar with his products. He’ll do blog post on a technique he found to make more money or get traffic to his pages. He’ll then dot small hyperlinks to his products in the copy as examples of how those products helped him. I’m embarrassed to say how many products I bought from those posts ;)

Maybe open up the funnel a little and start people off with 1 PLR per month for $4.95 and then upsell to the more expensive packages you offer? I’m a cheap skate so I’d probably go for that initially.

I think the pyscology of PLR isn’t how much money you can make with them, but how much time it will save you.

Just my thoughts :)

We have complete a full 60 minute webinar which we will be giving away very soon. I have just about every idea of what yoiu can use PLR for so it should go dwn quite well.

I do know hat you are saying about the members area Des, we do have all the video tutorials in the members area showing exactly what to when you have the downloads. I haven’t seen this with may other PLR sites. There are some updates which I have to discuss with Dave, so we should get something done very soon.

We tried the $1 trail last year for about 6 months and it never worked out to be as profitable as the $17 by button.

The testimonial page is a good idea, we could add the existing and new ones too. thanks Des.

As for video presentations for the new content, we have discussed broadcasting each month about the new content, but not in a video format style. I may split test this against text email and video.

I like the idea of $4.95 for one product initially which will be held on the front page. I’m thinking all low priced products will be up-sold a new package?

Great comments there Des, speak to you on Thursday :-D

I think that we often forget how little beginners know and we assume so much that we have lost them from the start. I’m speaking as a retired teacher and this is always on my mind. You might consider adding a beginner’s corner where everything is spelled out in a simple way — step by step. But then, I am advocating strongly that beginners not start off with IM. They are just learning after all.

My other point is to consider the different styles of learning. I am not an auditory learner. For that reason I don’t like videos. In my teaching, my lectures would be like the videos — oral presentation. I had one advantage. They could listen to me and follow along on their computers as well. They were then given a Cheat Sheet covering the lesson. After all, they couldn’t rewind me and get the idea reinforced. (Finding a point that you have forgotten is extremely time consuming on a video). Repetition is the key to learning a new concept. Very few people “get it” the first time. Make success easier and they will keep coming back to you.

One last point about videos — As a southerner from USA (Oklahoma) I have a very difficult time understanding most of you Brits on videos. You have a distinct accent and talk very fast. I am sure I have a distinct accent but my drawl is slow. In short, give me a transcript with screen shots every time. More time consuming? Yes. More effective for learners? I think so.

I’ll get off my soapbox now. Just a couple of things to consider.

Thanks Carol, I see your point of view with the beginners. We do try to help the beginner as much as possible within the video section, and there is always our help desk. I do like the idea of the beginner corner though.

I will be looking into transcribing the videos as well Carol.

Great tips there Carol. Thanks for the honest comments I appreciate every word.

Hey Dan,

Great video as always and I don’t know how much help I’ll be but here goes.

I haven’t used PLR material in well over two years probably. It did benefit me back when I was purchasing some. I know you said you shot a webinar but I think maybe doing more videos introducing the benefits of using PLR material. I think that with the Google Panda slap early last year people have gotten a bad taste in their mouth for content that they don’t consider to be unique and I believe PLR material falls into that category.

I also agree with James, you need to put that fan page back up and get that going again. You just might have to purchase Amy’s course, the one I recently took that helped me understand how to get my fans interacting so they will want what you have to offer. I think that could really benefit your site. I have that information in my post when I introduced my fan page last Monday if you want to take a look.

Will look forward to more of your mind maps but I think you did a great job with this one. So that’s all I’ve got for you, sorry! Hope it was someone helpful.

Have a great week my friend and let’s catch up soon.

I know what you say about Google Panda update, we had to move into more product orientated PLR as well as our regular stuff too. Saying that, I still have a site at number 1 page 1 on Google with duplicate content in the fitness niche for my key words? So it still works.

I have been watching your page and it looks like a good idea. I’m not sure if I still have it?

More mapping to come Adrienne and another post tomorrow in the opt-in series. Got some freebies too :-D

Thanks for stopping by Adrienne I know you are a busy lady.

Well, here comes trouble!

I think PLR products are AMAZING for getting some work done, particularly for people that are completely clueless about any niche (hard to understand, but yes, some people actually say they know nothing about anything!)

PLR products can include individual articles, reports, books, videos, squeeze pages, e-mail swipes and sometimes even graphics.

I consider a PLR product to be great when it comes packed with stuff you can work something out of.

A squeeze page outlining the strongest benefits, a sales page where you have a rough idea of what you can find inside (from reading the bullets) and when the information comes in a file that it is easy to modify.

I have never used PLR content myself (heck I haven’t even sold anything of my own before) but I wouldn’t mind to rewrite some stuff.

The only drawback I find to this, is that my stuff is way better LOL

But on a really serious note, if I open a PLR article on a niche that I know NOTHING about, not only I do learn about the topic, but the PLR actually provides amazing information to get myself started on that!

I am definitely going to get inside that PLR Monthly Dan, I’m just trying to get some cash together and apply for a lifetime membership.

(For anyone reading this, yes, PLR documents are THAT important!)

All the best man and speak soon!

Thanks Sergio, It’s funny you should say that you find out new info on a new topic when you look at the related PLR. I read a fair amount of the PLR I get, so that must make me greatly knowledgeable on all subjects. Lol on a serious note you are right, we have members who just like reading the material like a book club.

To be honest we have found it hard trying to show guys how to use the PLR, especially some of the newbies. That is why I created about 40 videos last year showing all the ways to use and profit from PLR.

Let me know when you are ready I’m sure I can fix something up for you.

Thanks man.

The Panda is the best thing that has happened for PLR. If I was in this business I would be on my toes coming at it from a fresh perspective capitalizing on the stir that has happened in the IM world because of it. Everyone has been put on notice to look after your customer better than ever and add value by adding high quality relevant content. How do you feel when you receive high quality content? Great empowered, enlightened, motivated and a need addressed. Content will be an issue each one of us has to address individually.
PLR is a gateway to providing the kind of content I refer to. There is a fear of duplicate content (whatever that is?) and the possibility someone else will have the same as what you have. PLR is not unlike the themes in novels. “Good guy versus the bad guy” The same “PLR” has been used over and over again. Zorro,Superman,Robo Cop,Iron Man and yes even a Panda(Kungfu Panda). The difference is the creativity and the individual way with people have handled the theme.
PLR is as individual as each person who possesses it. Add your life’s story and your mission and no one has anything like it. I believe in your uniqueness.
James

Hey James, Great comments my friend, I completely agree with you, it’s not that there are a lot of guys using the same PLR it’s exactly what you do with it that counts. I always explain to people that there are a great deal more ways to use PLR than they actually think. I have created a 20 page blog in the fitness niche and its on page 1 for the key words I have chosen. Its currently getting between 700 and 1000 hits per day, which is nice. Thats just one example of what you can use it for.

Great comment James thanks.

Hey Daniel,

This is a fascinating subject here. I think that many people tend to dismiss the mind-aspects which are so critical to our success. We do frame every aspect of our success and/or failure due to where our heads are.

I hear many people gripe about “all that mindset crap” while they’re looking for shortcuts there. I think that the best shortcuts are clarity, focus, follow-thru.

You did an excellent job on your video too!

So glad to have recently connected to you. I’m having fun perusing all your great share-worthy material. Happy to RT this one!

Thanks for inviting me over here. I liked the concept .The sale page layout that you are trying to create looks very similar to the web site from Free monthly websites I think that could be a good model to guide you in your new design .

I could not here the video or read the words but I got most of the main idea. I did not see anything on opt-ins list building and back end sale to a list. I’m sure you will have that in there somewhere on your second or third drafts on your mind map.

Thanks for getting our brains thinking-Good work
