You see I started to think about this post and the recent online activities I have taken part in so far, my mind kept on churning out a lot of different ideas and the steps I am going or want to take part in next. During my ride I decided to forget about making money for the time being and concentrate on the list I have before me what are my next steps?
1, should I send out a new free guide like the one you see on the right of this post which I recently wrote? Traffic maybe or a free blogging guide?
2, Should I concentrate on a new product and forget about offering free information?
3, should I concentrate on my blog and give it 100% over the next few months?
4, should I push my article marketing forward more and write more articles for greater traffic rewards?
5, should I sell my car? Do I need it? Why I thought about this I just don’t know?
6, am I qualified enough to coach people in marketing?
7, should I follow up on that website quote I was asked for last week? Hard work and very time consuming but it’s an option.
These are the thoughts that went through my head when I was on my ride, there were more but these were the ones that were most prominent in my mind as I rode.
Do You Get Good Thinking Time Like This?
Fitness is my way of think about my next steps and what comes next in my life. For me it’s none existent to have that eureka moment and put something into action by watching the tv or online gaming, even sitting in the pub with friends. Well that’s not entirely true I have made quite a few decisions in the pub and I would say the outcome is 50/50 at best. Many times have I come home with a crumpled up piece of paper in my pocket with some wild idea written on it which I have chuckled at then thrown it in the in bin so the pub is an exception
Maybe it’s the open road the feeling of being alone, me and the road or running machine when it’s raining. Solitude makes your mind work harder less distraction from the everyday chaos of life. This seclusion is the key to my thinking and idea generation.
I never looked at riding or gong to the gym in this way until last year when I went back to the gym from a two year break, but now my iPhone goes with me and the notes app is one of the most used apps I have the pleasure to use.
Do You Have Solitude?
Now I am not saying you should going out and join and gym and ride 20 miles like I did today. The fitness part of my life is just a bonus and I find I do my best thinking when I’m alone so I don’t really exercise idea generation at any other times (Unless I’m in the pub then it’s a 50/50 chance).
What I would say is if you are lost for ideas and your next steps, the answers are not always in a forum or the next gurus outbox. We all have the same interests in common it just takes those moments of thinking when you are at your most peaceful which allows your mind to be free of distraction and allows you the time to think about “What’s Next!”
BTW the tuna sandwich was my reward for riding 20 miles

Hey Dan,
It’s amazing how the brain works, even in the simplest way I know, it’s still difficult to understand the different facets of the brain and how it works.
But there is one thing that has come to light in recent years and that is the brain needs a bit of relaxation too. A sort of , well, time off.
It could be any sort of activity but it needs to be an activity that is sort of automatic like exercising, running, a relaxing time reading a book, etc.
I keep saying the brain needs a vacation too. I meant that the brain needs to be relieved once in a while.
It’s odd how this works, but usually after such a hiatus, the brain seems to be supercharged and ready to charge forward.
Great post, Daniel

Hi Mike,
Great comment you are exactly right a few hours down time gives you time to recharge and look at other angles and ideas.
Thanks!
Hey Dan,
Great post there, it does make me think when I actually think of my best ideas.
), another time when I get my best ideas is when I’m having a social beer or two with IM related friends like yourself
I emphasize ‘beer or two’ and no more.
For me it’s when I’m totally relaxed, listening to some classical music REALLY loud (stop laughing
Keep up the great work mate,
Dave.
Yo Dave Thanks for the respose – lets not mention the beers ok? Just to add I actullay laughed right before you told me not to
Interesting post Dan, I must admit I get most of my best ideas when I’m alone, usually walking the dog or out on my bike, but I also get some cracking ideas once I’ve had a few beers. Granted some are crazy but some are worth taking action upon. Plus we’ve also had some good ideas while we’ve sat together over a beer haven’t we?
But you’re right, sometimes the answer isn’t in a forum. it’s in your head waiting to come out, you just have to find a way to make the ideas flow.
Hey John,
Thanks for the info and yeah we have had some good ideas over a beer or 5
I must admit the more we have the crazier the ideas become!
Hello Dan,
20 miles? and I though I was crazy for getting up so early!!
I get most of my ideas really early in the morning, like really early….when I get up about 4 am! then I do my best to write them down or implement them.
I would really like to have more time to implement, I do have to go to work, get the kids up, make lunch, all sorts of things.
Like now…it’s 6 am and gotta go get ready for work, what I didn’t get done in the last 2 hours has to wait until tomorrow morning
so if I had a really awesome idea…gotta write it down! Won’t let up until I hit the bed tonight
Sorry, no pubs for me although it sounds like fun!!
Maybe tuna sandwich for lunch?? YUM!
Lisa~
Hey Lisa thanks for the comments. I think you are doing an amazing thing! Whoever said this business was an easy one obviously forgot how they started. Great things come to those who work hard enough and want it! Keep it up.
Yes, for me it’s walking and swimming. I need a bit of solitude, and exercise. Nature is good too (country walks rather than city).
I call it ‘headspace’ – space to think in an unhurried and unstructured way.
Hey Ann,
Thanks for your comments, it works for us in alternate ways, but never the less I think we all have our best ideas when we are alone. A little personal brainstorm session is always good!
Hey Dan,
Good post. I just stumbled on your site and I like it. I think it’s good to take time and get away from everything with your own solitude. It seems like some of the best ideas come when you disconnect from whatever you are working on. Keep up the good work on your blog!

Hey Darren,
Thank you for your comments. Being alone seems to be the main time when I generate ideas. Saying that I have an idea when I woke this morning too. I must be dreaming about marketing too much
Nice Blog BTW love the sexy share tool where did you get it?

Hey Dan,
Thanks for checking out my blog. Those are some productive dreams. I wish I had some like that. I’m actually about to go out to the countryside (definitely) and get some ideas right now (hopefully)
The sexy share tool is called “SexyBookmarks” by Shareaholic
Where did you get your banner for your blog made? Very classy.

Hi Daniel, it’s nice to land on your blog.
I agree that sometimes you get my most creative ideas when you’re doing some activity and you feel like you’re in complete solitude. When I was in Taiwan last year, I went hiking a lot during the weekend and I would generate many ideas for my blog to write about. Now that I’m back in America, I don’t get that many chances to go hiking so a lot of the times, many ideas come to me while I’m just running on the track.
You always get more mental clarity that attracts great ideas when you can do some sort of fitness I believe. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. 20 miles… that must have taken hours!
Hey Hulbert,
Wow Taiwan sounds great! I also run quite a lot too, I find fitness in general allows me to think a lot.
Thanks for the comments Hulbert.
Oh 20 miles took me 1 hour 15 minutes to ride
Hey Dan,
So exercise and solitude DO REALLY WORK!
I think you already know that I’m a runner (at least, sometimes lol) and whenever I’m running I start getting ideas out of nowhere and mostly are great ideas or solutions to problems I have yet to solve.
This rarely happens when I’m actually forcing myself to be creative at my workplace.
I guess that relaxing our brains really contributes to kick start the creative part of us, who knows… but that’s exactly how my brain (or mind) works!
Do you still take those 20 mile trips? (my gosh… that’s a whole marathon!)
